Kai Yong + Jiayi // Mountaintop Proposal

There’s something really magical about the mountains, especially at sunrise. The sheer joy and comfort of embracing in its entirety, with the sun’s soft warm glow, just feels otherworldly. Perhaps its because we have our own story with the mountains, but every part of this glorious beauty always take our breaths away.

After a simple breakfast of Milo and Korean instant noodles (with cheese!), we set off, still cold and freezing along the dark icy trails. With the beam of our headlamp guiding us, we watch our breath condense into puffs of smoke as we moved up the slope, one small step at a time. Little did Jiayi know what was about to happen. When we reach the summit, the sun greeted us with its warmth and surreal beauty, and make for a gorgeous backdrop to a proposal we are so privileged to document. While we got Jiayi to pose for an individual portrait,  Kai Yong sneaked up behind her. It was an adrenalin pumping moment as he went down on his knees and asked for Jiayi’s hands just as she turned around. She stood there, frozen (literally in these sub zero conditions), until she finally said yes with a sheepish smile!

Thinking back, it was rather funny how we put together this “stealthy” plan. Quite a couple of questions were being tossed out – ie. How would we be able to openly shoot the proposal? How do we disguise ourselves on the trek? How would he safekeep the proposal ring without her suspicion? We were glad it all went well and it was definitely a worthy adventure taken. And yes, it’s her first sunrise atop a mountain, and nothing could be sweeter than savouring this first with one so dearest.
