Joshua + Rachel // Fort Canning Park Tentage Wedding
When Joshua and Rachel first told us that they will be holding a tentage wedding celebration at Fort Canning Park, we almost couldn’t contain our excitement! Think nature, outdoor, tents, chillax vibes, heartfelt speeches, and a truly intimate celebration. These are the elements that resonate deeply with us, and we can’t help but secretly wish that every wedding is like this 😛 That said, its definitely not an easy feat piecing together such an alternative wedding, especially in our sweltering tropical heat (occasionally with sudden thunderstorms!), restrictive land law and having to conform to traditions and culture.
For Rachel, it was always her dream to have a garden wedding, and after much conceptualisation, planning, and loads of coordination together with Joshua – her dream came true. Their day started from the nearby Hotel Fort Canning, followed by solemnisation at Raffles House before their tentage wedding celebration at the Fort Gate. The whole day was nothing short of amazing, and we simply love how everything they had were of significance to them, and done with purpose and intent. It was such a surreal feeling, as they danced under the stars literally, surrounded by their dearest and closest.
Rachel blogged about her wedding planning journey in “Planning for Alternative Wedding“, and here’s a paragraph that we think is a valuable takeaway; no matter how big/small your wedding celebration is.
However, life is simply not just about self. It is important to communicate ideas and expectations with one another as a couple – after all this is the very first major project you would embark on together! There is really no absolute right or wrong. Consider and also communicate the expectations of others such as parents. Expressing your intention/heart behind your decisions as a couple would help. Obviously, life is not a bed of roses and we cannot have everyone agree with us for everything, so some compromise is needed.
